A corncrake is a BIRD Crex crex of the rail
family. About 25cm (10inches) long, it is
drably coloured, shy, and has a persistent
rasping call. It lives in meadows and crops
in temperate regions, but has become rare
where mechanical methods of cutting corn are
used.
